THE CHRISTMAS TREE STAND WITH SINGLE-WIRE TECHNOLOGY

O Christmas tree

In 1989, Klaus Krinner gave many families a wonderful gift: he invented the Christmas tree stand with single-wire technology. His company is still refining it to this day.

The struggle with the Christmas tree was the same every year: three screws, a thick trunk, and anxiously wondering how to get the tree to stand up straight in its holder. This problem most certainly disrupted the Christmas harmony in many a family. The solution came in 1989, when Klaus Krinner had the idea for a Christmas tree stand in which the tree is clamped and fixed firmly in place with a wire. “One morning at seven o’clock I made a few sketches and after four hours the prototype was ready. It was the idea of my life,” is how the entrepreneur from Straßkirchen near Straubing is quoted in Spiegel magazine. He immediately patented his idea – and founded Krinner GmbH, with which he established himself on the market for Christmas tree stands. According to the company, more than 90 percent of all stands now feature wire technology.

Further innovations were to follow, including special ground screws used, among other things, for the installation of elevated solar systems. The Christmas tree stands, however, remain a firm pillar of the company and are still being further refined. They now come equipped with water containers to keep trees fresher for longer. Krinner sells almost one million stands per year.
